🌊 Today’s Surf Report

Huntington Beach continues doing what Huntington Beach does: moving water, changing sandbars, shifting swell and creating moments that may only exist for a few seconds.

A surf report can tell us the swell, tide, wind and conditions. A photograph tells us something different.

It tells us who was there.

📸 The Missing Surfers

Sitting in the HB Surf Photos archive are roughly two terabytes of photographs accumulated over years of shooting surfers from atop the Huntington Beach Cliffs and around our local coastline.

Many of those photographs have never been claimed.

Somewhere in that archive are surfers who paddled out, caught a wave, went home and never knew somebody standing on the cliff captured that moment.

I call them Missing Surfers.

My goal now is simple: find them.

If you recognize yourself, a brother, sister, parent, child, friend or an old member of the Huntington Beach surf community in one of these photographs, reach out.

Let's get the photograph back where it belongs.

🌺 More Than a Surf Photo

Some photographs become more important with time.

They become family stories, remembrance cards, audio postcards, and little markers showing that somebody was here — on this beach, on this wave, on this particular day.

That’s what this one is about.
